Commercial Construction FAQ

Are you considering a commercial construction project? Do you have questions about the process and what it entails? You are not alone. Many people have questions about the ins and outs of these projects.

That is why we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions:

How do You Plan for a Commercial Construction Project?

The steps for project planning include the following:

  1. Define Your Project’s Goals and Scope: Determine what you want to achieve, whether it is expanding your space, building a new structure, or renovating an existing area. Consider how you want the finished product to function and look. Figure out your budget and timeline. These things will be the foundation of your plan.
  2. Turn to a Competent Project Team: Find a contractor with plenty of experience handling your type of project. You will also want to enlist the help of someone who is licensed and insured. Do not hesitate to speak with contractors about their credentials and past projects.
  3. Work Closely with Your Contractor to Develop a Plan: Include key milestones, deadlines, and critical paths. Identify the sequence of activities and dependencies between tasks. Ensure the contractor allocates resources effectively, ensuring that materials, equipment, and labor are available. Regularly monitor and update the project plan as the construction progresses.

Will You Need Permits? What About ADA Compliance?

Constructing a new commercial building anywhere in Los Angeles County requires a permit. The state typically issues permits to the licensed contractor in charge of the construction.

California commercial buildings must comply with the state’s building code and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Just because a project has a permit, it does not necessarily mean it is automatically compliant.

Can You Operate Your Business During Construction?

Our team can often make accommodations for renovation or expansion projects that allow you to keep your business up and running. We will discuss and strategize ways to avoid disruptions to your daily functions in the planning process.

Who Takes Care of the Project Design?

While we do not design construction projects, we offer pre-construction and design assist services. We can get involved in your project during the planning stages and offer valuable recommendations and insights. Our input could help you avoid setbacks and make smart decisions about products and materials.

How Long Do Construction Projects Generally Take?

Construction timelines vary from project to project. When you hire us, we will create a detailed schedule of our process that provides a completion date. It is important to note that this timeline is not set in stone. We do everything we can to meet our deadlines, but complications arise. This is why we communicate frequently with our customers so they are always up to speed on the status of their project and can feel confident it is on course.
